8 awesome outreach ideas for spring

Outreach is a year-round effort that helps build your church's presence in the community and grow membership. The turn of the seasons is a great time to take a fresh look at your outreach program and make some updates that can help fuel your efforts. Here are eight great outreach ideas for spring:

Spring cleaning in the community: Wear church logo T-shirts and go out to local parks and public spaces to clean up trash and debris that has collected over the winter months. Note how many bags you filled up and post your accomplishments on social media.

Visit senior living centers: Bring a little sunshine to the residents at a local nursing home by visiting to hand out fresh flowers. Additionally, at Sunday school have kids make drawings and then have a group come to hand out their artwork, too.

Schedule a church directory event: Draw active and inactive members in by scheduling a Lifetouch Church Directories event to create an updated directory. Any family from the community can get their pictures taken, plus receive a free 8x10 photograph.

Neighborhood helpers: Ask church members to suggest neighbors who may need help with spring lawn care. Then reach out to see if they would like assistance with things like raking, mowing or trimming landscapes.

Father/daughter dances: Host a fun community even open to all that lets young girls spend a special evening with their dad or other male role model. Play music, offer refreshments, set up a photo space and even have a table with crafts.

Spring gratitude: Thankfulness isn't only for the fall. Spread a little gratitude by visiting local public service offices (police, firefighters, etc.) and drop off candy to make their day a little sweeter and show you appreciate their hard work.

Coins for creation: Invite families to come to a fun kids coin carnival where you can play games for a quarter and win prizes. You might even sell food or host a bake sale. All funds raised go to support a nature-focused nonprofit or local outdoor improvement effort.

Outdoor service: With the weather nice, change things up and host a service on church grounds where families sit on blankets and then enjoy a potluck picnic afterward. Encourage members to bring a friend to this special event.

It's good to maintain successful outreach efforts, but also freshen things up with new ideas and activities from time to time. Let these eight ideas inspire you so you can spread the good word and grow your membership base.
